Propulsion is one of six sub-teams within RRPL, focusing mainly on the creation and implementation of solid and liquid motors in team rockets. The sub-team has been around since Fall 2018 and is expected to mature in the coming months.

RRPL is set to enter the Student Researched and Designed (SRAD) competition categories for 10,000 ft and 30,000 ft at the 2020 Spaceport America Cup.

The Wickman Method

In Fall 2018, a year after RRPL’s creation, three members traveled to Casper, Wyoming, to participate in a class focusing on the design, manufacturing and testing of solid rocket motors. This opportunity allowed RRPL to gain a reliable group that could implement this motor research back at Rutgers and teach new members as well. The team is currently negotiating with Rutgers University to begin manufacturing these ammonium perchlorate motors under the proper safety procedures.
